Agoraphobia Symptoms

Agoraphobia is a condition characterized by irrational fears of public or open spaces, and agoraphobics often suffer with anxiety or panic attacks while in situations from which they feel they cannot escape. They may feel anxiety or panic attacks develop in difficult situations or in situations that may result in embarrassment.

Panic attacks are associated with deep-seated fears, rapid heartbeat, disorientation, diarrhea, dizziness and a feeling of unreality. Agoraphobic patients tend to avoid situations which may provoke these reactions. They often fear being in places where there appears to be no escape. They constantly worry and often feel tense and stressed. These feelings may lead to extreme isolation. They avoid difficulties and often seem to have unstable behavior. They may feel a sense of losing control, especially if their comfort zones are invaded. These people may drive two blocks away from their homes, and begin to panic intensely from the fear of being outside their comfort zone.

If you recognize yourself in some of the symptoms described above, we recommend you take our agoraphobia test.
