Overcome Your Agoraphobia with Online Therapy

Category: Agoraphobia Online Therapy | Last updated: February 1st, 2022 | Reviewed and approved by:

Agoraphobia is an anxiety disorder characterized by irrational fears of public or open spaces. A person suffering from agoraphobia usually has previously had a panic attack in public and, therefore, avoids similar places or situations due to the fear of re-experiencing it.

Common places that are avoided are places that are difficult to easily escape like cinemas, churches, stores and traveling publicly by bus, train or airplane. If you avoid public situations like this due to the fear of having a panic attack and sometimes even isolate yourself at home, you might be suffering from agoraphobia.

If this sounds like you, please know you are not stuck; there are treatments that can help you. Our therapy for agoraphobia is based on cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). CBT focuses on the negative thinking patterns and behaviors that contribute to your fear of having a panic attack and lead to avoidance. With the help of your therapist, you will slowly be exposed to real-life situations that cause your fear of a panic attack. While this may sound scary, it will be safe and will eventually help you overcome your fears. You will learn how to control your anxiety and to look at your fears in a more realistic light. As you progress through the treatment, the thought or experience of panic will become less petrifying. Eventually you will be able to cope with previously fearful situations so you can take control of your life again.

"I enjoy being able to do this at my own pace however that is also a problem for me because I keep avoiding doing the next step for days.
It makes me feel better doing the courses however I don’t think I can afford to pay for this service for very long.

"This program has helped me look alot into myself, made me ask myself questions normally I'd never even think about. Allowed me to accept how some parts of me are while allowing me to change other parts. I can confidently say I'm doing much better than when I entered the program and am doing well."

"The counselor that we were paired with has been one like no other. This is our 3rd platform, attempting marriage counseling and I can honestly say that it is the only one that has led us to meeting a counselor that put in the work and effort for us. Sessions don't consist of silence and awkward chat, they consist of structured conversations surrounding real life issues between our marriage to actually work on."

"So far. I am still going through worksheets before I finally have a session with the therapist.

The worksheets have been a challenge, but that has been part of the learning experience about learning to manage my thought process.

The therapist has chimed in and has given me some good insights, and has given me some clues that help me understand the cycle of thought that has to change.

"The sessions and the worksheets have been really helpful for me. The worksheets give me things to consider and really be thoughtful about, as well as keep me accountable so I don't just fall into the routine of "it's fine, it's fine" and then do nothing. And the sessions as follow up have been great for me to talk through things that came up from doing the worksheets. So there's kind of a pause-and-think, and then discuss-and-feel approach to the program that works well for me. It's only been a few weeks, but I appreciate what I've learned and am tuning into, even in this short time."

"Beth is fantastic at counseling. She truly cares and will be there for you. She makes me feel comfortable to tell her anything. I have gone to a lot of counselors and she is head and shoulders above most of them. Her experience shows. She will hold you accountable but in a kind way. Overall great experience and I look forward to continuing to grow as a person with her help."
