Sometimes we have to look harder into situations to see results. When it comes to defeat anger, we must look harder at the consequences. When you begin to see how anger causes you trouble and hurts others, only then will you decide that it is time to defeat your anger. Often we feel angry as a result of thoughts that develop prior to the angry feeling. Thus, throughout this guide, you will be guided to note your thoughts prior to your anger, and review the notes that you have written in order to see outside of the box. In the meantime, we ask that you take some time to research on the Internet, and find case studies or stories about acts committed out of anger by different people, and what resulted from their actions.

Our goal is to help you see that anger results in problems and therefore we must defeat anger. Anger emerges from our thoughts and feelings, and how we react comes from either misconceptions or not having the ability to see outside of the box. When you can see outside of the box, you can relay healthy anger to others without causing them harm. That comes from emotional competency.

If you notice in the chart, anger emerges from our past events, experiences and learning: what we learn, experience, see, hear, express, etc. all factor in how we react to situations. Thinking about past events, experiences and learning all ignites our feelings and responses, which when a person becomes angry, can become overwhelming. Emotions take over when our feelings become overwhelming and then anger emerges from our thoughts.

Finding the Steps in Development of Emotional Competency

Most people make decisions on a daily basis without a second thought. First of all, we must stop and realize how many decisions an individual may make in a day. When an individual wakes up they must decide what to wear, how to do their hair, what to have for breakfast, what route to take to work, what to do first while at work and the list goes on and on. A person probably makes around ten or twenty decisions before the clock strikes 9 a.m. Most of these decisions are made without a second thought. Since an individual must make so many decisions it is very important to understand what guides them in the decision making process.

Decisions are made based on our current emotions, thoughts and feelings. Our emotional competency is defined by the way in which an individual reacts in a stressful situation. Emotional competency is the way in which an individual is able to handle certain events and daily activities. Each of us has a different emotional competency. When an individual wishes to achieve a higher level of emotional competency that individual is reaching towards a more positive life, a life that is more rewarding and successful. Think about it - if all of us made better decisions as individuals we would all be able to achieve our innermost hopes and dreams. An individual must not be afraid to evaluate their own personal emotional competency. At some point in time, we must be willing to step back and look at the emotions that determine how we make decisions.

The third component of emotional competency is self-confidence. Self-confidence is the "belief in your capability to accomplish a certain task". This type of emotional competency is one in which an individual recognizes that they are the best person for the job. Self-confidence is also about "conveying your ideas and opinions" in a manner that is self-assured. An individual who is self-assured has a very positive and lasting impact on other people. We have all envied someone with self-confidence at one point in time. Now, it is time for all of us to possess a greater level of self-confidence.

An individual who is self-confident has three very important skills. They will present themselves in an unhesitating and self-assured manner. They usually stand out within a group. Finally, yet importantly, a self-confident individual believes that he or she is the right person, the most competent person, for the specific job. Once an individual possesses all three of these skills and feelings then that individual can be labeled as self-confident.

There are three steps that an individual can take in order to gain a higher level of self-confidence. In order for an individual to learn about self-confidence, the individual must be willing to change their behavior and thinking. A person must adjust their thinking to match someone else who has self-confidence. Once an individual is committed to gaining self-confidence the individual must learn to act more decisively and in a confident manner. In order to gain self-confidence, choose a friend or mentor, someone who you trust, to assist you in analyzing your confidence ability. This will allow you to see yourself through someone else's eyes. This is very important in order to gain new perspectives on life.

When you are ready to achieve self-confidence you should seek out a job for which you are personally qualified for. Ask someone you trust or your mentor to help you assess what you need to do in order to increase your qualifications. By searching for a better job, one that you are qualified for, you are approaching the highest rungs of success and emotional competency.
