Steps to Overcome Irrational Thinking

1. Pleasurable pursuits – commit some time each day to pursue pleasurable activities.

2. Rational-emotive imagery – vividly picture conflicting or difficult events and practice thinking rationally about them.

3. Shame-attacking exercise – perform "silly" or "embarrassing" acts in public to demonstrate that there is no need to feel ashamed.

4. Court discomforts – deliberately do uncomfortable things, or stay in uncomfortable situations a little longer.

5. Risk taking – do things anxiously feared.

6. Behavioral rehearsal – practice unskilled or fearful things.

7. Reward and penalize self – reward or penalize self for doing or not doing something positive to overcome your fears or behaviors and irrational thinking.

Anger, hate, resentment, doubts, fears, and all other negative emotions can wear you down. Abandon them. Take control of your anger and put it to rest once and for all by completing the technique below.

Description: first, accept your emotional arousal and try to assess your personal condition (accept that you are upset). Second, pause to collect yourself and try to gain your composure through a relaxation response (counting from 1 to 10). Third, think about your choices of emotional expression.
