I have been a CBT therapist for the past 9 years and have worked in the NHS and then privately. My career started 20 years ago where I worked with disabled children and then went on to do family work for a charity called Family Action. Here I supported children and their families with problems such as behaviour problems, family discord, friendship issues and parenting difficulties. This led me to want to do some more therapeutic work with people as I could see there was always a bigger picture as to why people behave, feel and react they way they do.
While working in this role I did a degree on the weekends in Integrative counselling which was enriching and rewarding, we did a module on CBT and this type of therapy really resonated with me as I had the underpinning from a counselling perspective and wanted to help people move forward in a tangible and practical way also with strategies. I had CBT myself and it made so much sense it inspired me to train in it!
This is when I joined the NHS and trained as a CBT therapist and worked there for 7 years. I have since left and have my own private practice offering CBT and EMDR.
I am passionate about helping people understand themselves and their responses so they can lead more fulfilling lives. We can often feel trapped in ourselves and not know how to move forward and I believe CBT can really help here.
I have a particular interest in adult ADHD and all anxiety disorders but work with all presentations using what I have learnt over the last 12 years as a therapist.
I look forward to being part of your change :)
