I am seeking to better assist individuals who are experiencing distorted thought sand behaviors, and feel like they are drowning with no way out. I would like to give back more meaningfully within my scope of expertise by using life experiences similar to clients without judgment and/or bias. I recently obtained an advanced certificate in Pastoral Counseling from Liberty university, which coincides well with my certification in CBT as well as background in Behavior Analysis. My Certified Cognitive-Behavioral Therapist (CCBT - National certifying body of National Association of Cognitive Behavioral Therapists: NACBT) #12677
Although I have not provided formal counseling online, I have through teaching/tutoring and informal counseling to others in various capacities. I would like to provide a practical space to individuals who do not wish to go to another location and think this setting to be more private and relaxed as they can speak to me in their own comfortable space at their time convenience. I am willing to devote 10 - 20 hours a week, possibly more. I have garnered over 18 years, beginning with AmeriCorps college counseling while attending Pace University. Please view my resume in detail.
I approach counseling from the client perspective, getting a feel for where they are emotionally and mentally before knowing how to proceed. I am inclined towards CBT strategies in terms of assisting clients in changing their distorted ways of thinking and behaviors with more positivity by using the "what if you woke up tomorrow and life was the best you could have imagined, what would that look like" and take it from there. However, it's a person by person approach.
