I am a licensed professional counselor (LPC) in the state of Alaska and I've been in the mental health field since 2014. I began my career working in a residential treatment center for adolescent girls and on the adolescent mental health care unit of a hospital. I graduated in 2011 from the University of Anchorage Alaska with a Bachelor's of Psychology. In 2015, I graduated from Alaska Pacific University with my Master's in Counseling Psychology and began working as a Behavioral Health Consultant at the Southcentral Foundation. In this role I provided brief solution focused therapy to children, adolescents and families.
Seeking guidance can be daunting and yet here you are! I'm glad you've made the decision to reach out and build your support network; it can be incredibly challenging and isolating to go it alone.
I enjoy helping clients manage challenges such as stress, anxiety, and depression while building coping skills. Being a therapist has been my calling since I was an adolescent; it is my passion. I work closely with clients in helping them to take a step back in order to look at how their thoughts, behaviors and relationships may be contributing to mental (and physical) distress.
I go at the pace my clients set while encouraging them to try and exceed what they believe they are capable of. I believe therapy is a collaborative effort wherein I follow my client's lead but share insight if they feel they've veered off path. My job isn't to simply give advice; my job is to guide, provide tools and help clients explore their lives even through their most painful experiences (past and present). I have been fortunate to work with many individuals from all walks of life. I enjoy serving the community through private practice where I am able to see children, adolescents, adults, couples and families.
I am flexible and want to make this an experience that you benefit from and feel is worth your time and resources. I can be directive or simply lend a supportive and empathetic ear. Often the needs of a client changes throughout the course of therapy and I'm glad to be along for the ride. I'm open to feedback and always encourage clients to let me know if something we're doing isn't working. My ego isn't at play here, your mental health and well-being are. A therapeutic relationship can take time to hit its rhythm - it's all part of the process. In my experience, therapy is more like a marathon, not a sprint and some miles are harder than others.
I utilize traditional talk therapy, elements of play therapy and draw from a variety of therapeutic backgrounds which means I am eclectic in my practice which allows me to meet my clients where they're at flexibly.
As a Caucasian female, I am responsible for educating myself on appropriate and culturally sensitive approaches in order to help individuals of all cultural, religious and ethnic backgrounds. I am an LGBQT+ friendly therapist.
