Maureen joined Hope in January 2019. Her career of working with children and families began when she graduated with her Bachelor’s degree in Education with a focus on Special Education in 1992 from NIU. After teaching for 5 1/2 years and then taking time off to raise her family, Maureen earned her Master’s Degree in Social Work from George Williams College of Aurora University in WiIliams Bay, Wisconsin. Maureen is trained in Crisis Intervention, the Mandt system of Relationships and conflict resolution with a focus on Trauma informed care; She recently completed training as a Suicide Bereavement Clinician through AFSP (American Foundation for Suicide Prevention) and completed a 40 hour training for treating survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. She has worked extensively with clients experiencing mental health emergencies including those requiring hospitalization.
Maureen has a broad range of clinical experience working with individuals across the life span in the following areas: Grief and loss, Suicide assessment and Safety planning, Depression and Anxiety/Mood disorders, Family and Relationship issues, Dual diagnosis-Mental health and Addictions, Coping Skills, Individuals with Special needs and LGBTQ Support.
Maureen uses a variety of modalities which incorporates best practice from Cognitive Behavioral therapy, Solution focused therapy, Motivational Interviewing and Person Centered therapy. Maureen is in the process of becoming trained as a Registered Play Therapist.
Maureen has been training with Dr Terry Kottman, inventor of Adlerian Play therapy this past year to become trained in Adlerian play therapy methods including Family therapy and sand tray therapy methods. Maureen believes in a strengths based approach that is guided by the individual needs of the client.
