MSW LCSW APHSW-C
You are in the process of taking a vital step in becoming a healthier you. Often, the first step is the hardest. If you are experiencing symptoms of anxiety or depression, having relationship or professional challenges, suffering from grief or loss, or feeling "stuck,” let’s meet so we can see if we are a good therapeutic match.
When offering therapy, I employ a Strengths-Based therapeutic approach combining Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Meaning-Centered psychotherapy, and Dignity Therapy.
It may help your decision when selecting a therapist to know a little about my professional background. Currently, I offer in-person sessions to clients in need of emotional support in New Jersey. In addition, I am a doctoral candidate on track to graduate with a Doctorate in Social Work from Rutgers University June of 2021.
With a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from University of Maryland, European Division, I worked as the Director of Social Services in Washington State facilities before returning to school to earn a Master of Social Work and Certificate of Aging Studies from Virginia Commonwealth University.
While pursuing my license as a Clinical Social Worker, I acted as a Care Coordinator at a major hospital in New Jersey. Soon after completing my LCSW, I had the privilege of offering psychotherapy to palliative care patients and their families who were struggling with end of life issues. I’ve expanded my services to this venue so I can reach an even more diverse population.
Please know each of our sessions will be tailored to your needs. My goal is to enable you to experience a therapeutic process that is comfortable, impactful, and empowering.

"I have been a client of Melissa's for a number of years and I highly recommend her services.
I am a cancer "thriver" and within myself I am working to reduce my fear/anxiety that comes with this distinction. This is not an easy task and I have met with other therapists, but none that I would say have helped me more than Melissa. It is so important to be comfortable with and confident in your therapist and this is how I feel about her.
Melissa is intelligent, professional and compassionate. She really listens to you and is engaged in what you're saying. She pays attention to what I am bringing to her that day and then helps me better understand myself and my world. I always feel good when I leave our sessions. She gives me confidence in myself. I say she is one of my "tools" in my toolbox of healing.
I do believe you will find that you'll be just as pleased to talk to her as I am. I wish you all the best on your healing journey."

"I’ve met with Melissa once a week for almost a year now. I’ve had a few therapists over the years but Melissa has been the best. Always kind, compassionate, funny, and just nice to talk to. She genuinely gives me the feeling that she cares, often remembering the smallest details from something I said weeks before. She’s given me fresh and thoughtful perspective on a wide range of my personal issues and has been very helpful. I can’t recommend her enough!"
