My name is Bob Baker and I'm a licensed marriage and family therapist. I have been licensed for over 25 years. I come with a lot of life experience where I have had to learn how to actually put into practice many of the things we generally talk about in therapy. I was in the U.S. Army and served with the 82nd Airborne Division then closed out my military service as a Drill Instructor. I was raised in an alcoholic home and I too am an alcoholic. I've been clean for over 45 years.
Many of my life experiences have helped smooth many of the sharp edges obtained in my early life. I've been married for over 45 years and my wife and I have had our ups and downs and we needed to learn how to exist together in each phase of our marriage, raising children to the empty nest to the wonderful state of being a grand parent.
As with any therapist, I bring my life lessons with me. I believe I've brought over the better life lessons from of my early life experiences. I learned about commitment, understanding when to move in another direction in life and that little things matter in life. I learned that one needs to know how to live one day at a time at the same time have a good plan to make the future better. I believe these things are inclusive and gives the best options to get the most out of life.
I honor and respect all of my clients and have a deep desire for them to get the most out of life. To accomplish this we all need tools uniquely designed for each person. I do not have a 'one way works for everyone' approach. I've been married for over 45 years and my wife has helped me become a romantic. I will do my best to help couples stay together but I am aware that divorce happens. People who have been divorced tend to hate it much more than those of us that have never gone through a divorce. I want to help at least one of them have that sense that they have done their best to resolve the marital conflicts. If and when they meet someone else, they have the confidence that they are not the a flawed or broken person.
I want every person I work with to know that they have done their best to become the person possible. I frequently tell clients our goal should be to become the kind of person that deserves the spouse, family, friends and life they want.
