I always had an idea of what I thought a therapist should be like. Even as a young teen, I wanted to help people and served as a peer counselor. With the years in practice, I have learned that everything I need to know about therapy cannot be found anywhere in a textbook or university, it can only be harnessed in real life through actual connections with people. The opportunity to be trusted with someone's pain, shame, pleasure or joy is one of the most sacred experiences you can truly offer another human being. Its'about temporarily clearing your own canvas so you can hold and cultivate a special space for another person to share their most fragile pieces or vulnerable indiscretions in a meaningful way that honors their experience. What they don't teach you in school is that therapy is truly an art that includes a delicate balance of timing, technique, precision and skill at various intersections. It requires a lot of risk, intuition, self awareness and willingness to expand and suspend your own beliefs so you can wholeheartedly appreciate those of your patient. The only way to refine this skill is in vivo, live, on the playing field so to speak, by creating unique, individualized and sustained connections with your clients that value who they are and not who you want them to be. Much like a painting, no two clients are exactly alike and you will never be able to replicate a particular session, group or modality with another patient. Therein lies the beauty of humanity in all its forms and manifestations, fetishes and delights. In therapy, comes to light various energies that captivate what it means to be human. A successful journey allows me to guide you in your own journey to manipulate and replicate the energy you want more of.
