Benjamin Ramos Anderson
,LCSW, LICSW
As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, my therapeutic practice is anchored in the core values of the social work profession: service, social justice, dignity and worth of the person, importance of human relationships, integrity, and competence. Over the course of my career, I have learned that healing does not occur in a vacuum. It is deeply connected to our environments, our cultural backgrounds, our histories, and the systems we navigate every day.
My approach to psychotherapy is holistic, collaborative, and warm. I strive to create an approachable, non-judgmental space where you feel safe, truly seen, and deeply understood. Whether you are facing a major life transition, managing a chronic mental health condition, processing complex trauma, or seeking a supportive space to explore your identity, I am here to walk alongside you on your journey toward clarity, stability, and growth.
Honoring Identity and Working with Diverse Populations
A central pillar of my practice is a commitment to providing culturally responsive care that respects the unique background of every individual. Throughout my decade of experience in the social services field, I have had the privilege of working with an exceptionally wide and diverse range of populations across the lifespan, from young children to older adults.
My extensive work with the Latinx community has allowed me to integrate bilingual psychotherapeutic interventions that honor cultural nuances, family dynamics, and the specific strengths inherent in Latinx families. Being fluent in both Spanish and English allows me to break down linguistic barriers and provide a space where clients can express their deepest emotions in the language that feels most natural to them. In addition to my focus on Latinx families, my clinical background includes dedicated service to: Immigrant and Refugee Families: Supporting individuals navigating the intense stress of relocation, systemic barriers, and acculturation.
The LGBTQ+ Community: Facilitating intergenerational support groups and helping individuals explore identity, come out, navigate life transitions, and heal from minority stress.
Neurodivergent Individuals: Partnering with children, adolescents, and adults diagnosed with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) to build coping skills and celebrate their unique brains.
Tribal and Indigenous Communities: Delivering culturally responsive, remote psychotherapy to Indigenous individuals and families in Alaska and continental US tribal communities, building upon early foundational experience as an intervention teacher at a tribal school.
By recognizing the dignity and worth of every person, I tailor my clinical approach to meet you exactly where you are, honoring the intersection of your race, ethnicity, language, age, sexuality, and gender identity.
Navigating Cross-Cultural Contexts and Systemic Realities
True social work practice requires an understanding of how macro-level systems impact an individual's micro-level mental health. My experience spans vastly different cultural and geographical contexts, giving me a broad perspective on how environment shapes well-being. I have worked within urban school systems in Chicago, providing play therapy and social-emotional learning groups to children from primarily immigrant backgrounds. I have also provided remote psychotherapy to individuals living in isolated, rural communities across Minnesota, Alaska, and North Dakota. Operating in these diverse cross-cultural settings has shown me that access to mental health care is a social justice issue. Rural populations often face a severe shortage of providers and high levels of stigma surrounding mental illness. Conversely, newly arrived immigrants and refugees frequently face structural barriers, including a lack of language access, unfamiliarity with local school and healthcare systems, and highly discriminatory government policies. Because of these realities, my role as a therapist often extends into advocacy. Whether I am helping a family secure an Individualized Education Program (IEP) for their child, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, or mapping out community assets to connect clients with vital local resources, I believe that supporting your mental health means addressing the real-world obstacles you face outside the therapeutic setting.
Clinical Expertise and Issues Treated
Over the years, I have successfully treated a broad spectrum of psychological, emotional, and behavioral concerns. I view symptoms not as personal failures, but as a person's best attempt to cope with challenging life circumstances. In my practice, I frequently treat and support individuals dealing with: Trauma and Stressor-Related Disorders: Including Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Complex PTSD (C-PTSD) arising from community violence, migration trauma, human trafficking, or interpersonal abuse. Mood and Anxiety Disorders: Helping clients manage Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), the constant worry of Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD), and the emotional fluctuations of Bipolar Disorder. Crisis and Behavioral Dysregulation: Using gentle, non-violent de-escalation techniques and crisis counseling to help individuals return to a state of emotional safety and equilibrium.
Life Transitions and Identity Exploration: Assisting older adults processing aging, grief, and shifting family structures, as well as young adults finding their footing in school, career, and relationships.
My Therapeutic Framework
My therapeutic style blends evidence-based practices with a highly creative, collaborative, and humanistic approach. I have specialized training in delivering Trauma-Informed Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) specifically tailored for Latinx children and families. When working with adults, our sessions will focus on recognizing behavioral patterns which are no loger useful, challenging unhelpful core beliefs, processing historic trauma and developing concrete mindfulness and cognitive tools to manage daily stressors. When working with younger children, I shift into play therapy and Social-Emotional Learning (SEL), utilizing the universal language of play to help children process complex trauma, name their emotions, and build healthy social skills.
Regardless of the specific therapeutic modality we use, the foundation of our work together will always be our relationship. I operate under the firm belief that you are the ultimate expert on your own life. My job is not to dictate your path, but to offer support, safety, an objective perspective, and solidarity as you navigate it. Taking the step to enter therapy can feel intimidating, but you do not have to carry your burdens alone. I look forward to connecting with you, listening to your story, and working together to build a life that feels authentic, peaceful, and profoundly fulfilling.
