I received my Masters in Counseling in 1996 from the University of Lynchburg in a traditional in-person program. I completed my residency in counseling in outpatient and emergency services treating a variety of issues including relationships, anxiety, phase of life, trauma, depression and addiction.
I have worked in inpatient and outpatient, as well as in- home community based settings since becoming licensed as a professional counselor in 2001.
My approach is strengths based and the use of motivational interviewing and cognitive behavioral techniques to assist clients. I feel helping people obtain skills and manage / accept circumstances is very effective in gaining relief. I believe that our experiences and expectations inform how we interact with the world. How we understand things is not always useful or accurate. Healing can come from insight and gaining skills to prevent old patterns from repeating.
Increasing our understanding and acceptance of ourselves yields peace and confidence that allows success in life.
