,Masters of Counselling
My first priority as a counsellor is in providing a safe, supportive and non-judgemental space for individuals to explore their thoughts and emotions freely. My aim is to work collaboratively with new clients to identify their strengths, clarify and understand their goals and support them both as the observer of their thoughts and feeling and the driver of their own steps towards change. I believe individual change happens when people develop greater self-efficacy: the individuals belief in their own ability to succeed. My goal as a counsellor is to listen and facilitate exploration and curiosity in their own unique capacities. This cooperative process can begin within the a place of pre-contemplation when goals are not yet established. Simple observations leading towards open curiosity, greater contemplation and planning steps toward change.
In my experience there is no 'one way' to provide counselling as each client comes with their own unique characteristics, culture and personal orientation. It is my role to provide a consistent and reliable therapeutic environment that allows them to explore their own beliefs, thoughts and feelings and the 'feelings about those feelings'.
I also believe counselling should be enjoyable and that this is an essential component in the relationship between the counsellor and client.
