I have my PhD from the University of Georgia in Counselor Ed and Supervision with a Masters in School Counseling From Appalachian State University. I worked as a School Counselor in the Elementary Setting for ten years in Gwinnett County Georgia before earning my PhD and LPC. I have worked at Liberty University for 5 years and also in 2 different Private Practices.
In terms of my approach the therapeutic relationship is what matters the most so I make sure to put a lot of emphasis on understanding the person with judgement and meeting them where they are. I tell them my goal isn't to tell them what to do but allow space for the person to share their stories/experiences and figure out what based on their circumstances and environment how to be the best version of themself. I think this is accomplished through a variety or work/techniques. Most of what I do is centered around a CBT lens that works to incorporate homework activities and opportunities for the client to help explore what might work the best in their specific situation.
