Erika Diederich

I completed my BS in Psychology at Fort Hays State University in May of 2019. In May 2023, I graduated with my Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Fort Hays State University. I have been working clients in a clinical environment at Heartland Rural Counseling Services in Colby, KS since January of 2023 when I began my internship. Throughout my internship from January 2023-2024, along with working with children/families, I also ran an Therapeutic Infertility Group utilizing CBT and trauma informed techniques. From December 2022-May 2023 I was also working with clients in a school setting as a Student Advocate where I expanded my counseling skills and applied clinical knowledge within the school role. Prior to this, I worked as a Child Protection Specialist for the Department for Children and Families from December 2018-December 2022. In this role, I investigated allegations of child abuse/neglect and arranged appropriate services for the families I worked with. Due to my work history, I have experience in trauma informed practice and I am also trauma treatment trained. I am currently enrolled in a Play Therapy Training program that will lead to me being a Registered Play Therapist and will be doing further training in Theraplay as well.

I am passionate about this field of work and dedicated to expanding my skill set as I deem myself a life-long learner. Overall, I aim to provide an environment that is strength-based, person centered, supportive, and compassionate. It is important for me to provide a nurturing and safe environment for clients to express and process, while also identifying strengths and challenge to explore their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Each client is unique and has their own individual journeys and it is a privilege to guide and support these clients through their healing and growth.
