Jessica Dostie

I graduated with distinction from my undergraduate degree in Psychology. I have my Masters of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University. I am trained in CBT, solution-focused therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). I am a Canadian Certified Counsellor and enjoy working with teens and adolescents on a variety of issues, and I also support most ages from 10 years old and up with issues such as grief, anxiety, depression, addiction, trauma, and overwhelming life transitions. Also, I have experience working at a womens shelter providing crisis counselling for 3 years, and have a deep understanding of crisis and trauma, as well as domestic violence. Furthermore, I have volunteered with a pregnancy and infant loss peer support service and can provide a safe space for families who have or are going through loss in this capacity.

My therapy philosophy is that I am a fellow traveller on this road towards mental wellness. I lead from behind as I am not the expert on my clients, they are. My philosophy is to empower clients to realize that they have resources within themselves to get through difficult times and through self-compassion they find confidence. One thing I say to my clients is, if being hard on yourself was going to work, it would have worked by now. I believe that in order to flourish and do hard things, we must treat ourselves like we treat our friends and family. Often, we treat others with much more compassion and understanding. Ultimately, my goal is to create a space where clients are seen and heard without judgement.
