I have worked full-time jobs, while working part-time jobs all of my working career, and consequently, I am able to juggle varying schedules. My work history is diverse yet interrelated. I have worked in the Human Services field for over 40 years; 20 years full-time in case management and career counseling, and supervision of case managers and career counselors; I have been teaching for 20 years full-time as a professor and corporate trainer; and 20 years as an adjunct (part-time professor both online and in the classroom; and I have worked over 20 years part-time as a therapist and counselor, in private clinics, online, and at colleges.
I believe the healthcare system in the United States, particularly when it comes to mental health, is in need of significant improvement. I believe that everyone should have access to someone to talk with and work through the challenges they experience in life. The online venue offers this option to many. I have noticed that show and compliance rates are higher in the online environment in part due to convenience but perhaps, more importantly, because people feel more comfortable talking with someone from their homes. I am client-centered and solution-focused, and most of the clients I encounter appreciate this approach. While I believe in CBT, I also understand that individuals are unique and consequently, require unique treatment strategies that fit the individual rather than the individual fitting a therapeutic approach.
