About Me

I started studying counseling and therapy techniques as well as psychology 20 years ago. I have obtained an MSc in psychology, a postgraduate diploma in person-centered and CBT counselling, a postgraduate diploma in drama education, and a BA in counselling and social studies. I have a friendly, non-judgemental attitude to others. People usually feel very comfortable opening up to me. I am happy to connect with anyone regardless of their cultural backgrounds. I have been educated in different types of evidence-based therapeutic methods (e.g. CBT and mindfulness techniques, autogenic training) and have practiced psychodrama and bibliodrama. I tailor my therapeutic approach to my client’s individual needs. I have a holistic approach to life and have also studied alternative methods such as yoga and breathing techniques that help manage stress. I look at all aspects of a person (physical condition, social connections, personal beliefs) in order to help improve their well-being. I feel it is important to approach life from all angles. I have worked in different mental health settings, and in multicultural environments to practice how to connect with people of diversity. Taking a holistic approach allows me to realize whether your spiritual beliefs are essential for your emotional well-being. I take your social background and spiritual beliefs into account when I put myself in your shoes to understand your mindset. Creativity plays a vital role in mental health and well-being. Encouraging clients to get engaged in creative tasks is my favorite method to help them experiment with new perspectives and behaviors.

"Kat is a great listener and an inventive therapist. She meets you where you are, and listens to where you want to go. She is non-judgmental but asks you to turn your own eye upon your actions and think about them systematically.
She also works very hard to help you. I would post thoughts rather frequently, and she always got back to me rapidly, and wrote at length in response to my questions and situations.

She truly excels in video counseling. I was very hesitant at first to not have a therapist in person, but in many ways, having her be in the UK while I was in the USA made therapy work BETTER. For one thing, it meant that I could schedule sessions at unusual times.

I cannot say enough about her creativity. If you have an artistic passion or hobby, or simply approach life with some creativity, she is amazing. She's also creative in problem solving your issues around productivity or family or life generally. She isn't a cookie cutter therapist who has one solution for everything. She suggests possible explanations, but doesn't remain wedded to them if the situation doesn't fit the explanation she proffers.

She has a charming accent that is vaguely Eastern European, so you may imagine at times that you are talking to Freud's great granddaughter.

She was also helpful on parenting issues.

All in all, one of the best therapists I've ever worked with.

"I found Katalin very understanding the whole way through my journey. "Katalin has been a blessing to me thus far. I have just started my counseling journey. Her patience, listening and engagement skills, along with initiative to understand her client is noteworthy. Especially with my complex PTSD from lifelong traumas. I have never done this before because of the horror stories of lackluster counselors that can make you feel like just a number. Or worse off, like a wuss or baby. I have heard of counselors downplaying trauma as well. I do feel that way in this process with Katalin. I have a long way to go, but my gut tells me I am in good hands."
