My education includes a Master's degree in Theology, with an emphasis in Spiritual Care and Psychotherapy from Wilfred Laurier. I also completed a Bachelor of Arts from Redeemer University in Social Work. Some of my training has included Applied Behaviour Analysis (Level 1), Prader-Willi Training, and non-violent crisis prevention intervention.
My previous work experience involved coming alongside families, schools, and residential group homes to provide assistance and strategic behavior management as needed. Prior to this work, I spent time mentoring young adults in a gap-year program in Western Canada and South Africa. My duties involved providing counsel and support as the students spent time learning about their identities and faith in a cross-cultural setting. Through both of these experiences, I could sense a passion for listening to the pain and the stories of others growing.
Drawing from my previous work experiences, a common theme that continues to follow me is the beauty and significance of every person's story that I encounter. Our stories are profound and provide significant insight into who we are and where we have come from. It's an honor to be invited into the story and pain of someone's life, and I believe that psychotherapy provides an opportunity to be known and accepted as we are. My therapeutic approach involves addressing the pain within and allowing my clients to make meaning from hopeless situations. I am person-centered in my approach, so depending on the client's need at hand, I enjoy drawing from various modalities which I think will be most suitable to the client. Some of the modalities I work from are CBT, IFS, narrative therapy, and psychodynamic approaches.
