I have a Bachelor's degree in Sociology, a Bachelor's degree in Education, and a Master's and PH.D. in Psychology.
I was an elementary public school teacher for 17 years which I enjoy very much. After seeing so many students struggling with various difficulties and wanting to be of more assistance I decided to become a psychologist. I completed my internship at a non-profit community health center working with children, adolescents, and adults. I obtained my Ph.D. in 2013 and completed my post-doctoral work at long-term care facilities working with elderly clients. I opened my own private practice in 2017.
I view therapy as a unique collaborative relationship. My purpose as a therapist is to assist my clients in improving their quality of life by providing them with evidence-based coping/calming skills and cognitive strategies. My first goal is to actively listen to understand and validate my clients' life experiences, needs and wants and to apply various therapeutic techniques which are best suited to address their personal issues. I have experience using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, Solution Focused Therapy, and Person-Centered Therapy (Rogerian Therapy). It is my hope that my clients leave therapy with issues resolved and skills and tools to continue to assist them in addressing any future issues that may come up for them.
