About Me

Hello! My name is Lisa Neuweg and I have been practicing psychotherapy since 2005. I received my Clinical License (LCPC) in 2007. I graduated from Bradley University with my Bachelor or Arts degree in 2001 and from there received my Master of Arts degree in Human Development Counseling at the University of Illinois at Springfield in 2004.

Upon completion of my Master's degree, I became employed at Chestnut Health Systems in Bloomington, IL as an inpatient addiction therapist. During my two and a half years at Chestnut Health Systems, I provided counseling and support to clients with alcohol and drug dependency issues. I developed and facilitated goal-oriented psychoeducational and activity therapy groups. During my time working with clients in group and individual counseling, I used a combination of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and person-centered therapy. In addition, I provided comprehensive case management services, including creating treatment plans and connecting clients and families to appropriate resources in the community. I also presented case history material to review and discuss with other staff members.

For the past 11 years, I have been employed with Agape Counseling in Bloomington, IL. I provided counseling to children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families in this outpatient setting. I participated in weekly consultation services with my peers and a consultation expert in order to provide my clients with the most relevant and clinically appropriate treatment. I utilized evidence-based interventions and protocols for maximizing outcomes for specific diagnoses/populations. I facilitated several groups and workshops during my time at Agape Counseling. I facilitated groups for adolescent girls on the topics of anxiety, stress management, and healthy relationships to self and others. I Co-facilitated a group for increasing social skills for adolescents on the spectrum as well as a group for adults on healthy boundaries. I also provided workshops on self-compassion for mothers and mindful parenting.

My speciality skills include a certification in Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), extensive training and experience working with self-harm issues in adolescents,
skilled in mindfulness and self-compassion practices, trained in providing grief counseling to individuals who have experienced pregnancy loss, and trained in using yoga, mindfulness, and basic nutrition to treat trauma.

I strive to use an integrative approach in my work with clients, with an emphasis on CBT and mindfulness, based on evidence-based practices and appropriate treatment for each client. I have an excellent ability to build therapeutic relationship and facilitate growth with my clients. I am well respected by my peers in the field and passionate about continuing to provide effective treatment.

"I highly recommend Lisa to anyone seeking an excellent, kind, and empathetic professional. Lisa was a huge help through the pandemic and after, with availability for sessions even I was at different times in three different continents/time zones. Found very helpful that Lisa was a similar age/life phase to me, as she was able to understand and unpack challenges with children, ageing parents, etc. All in all a fantastic therapist!"

"Sometimes life moves pretty fast. We lose our way along the rollercoaster ride, and next thing we know we are older, don't really know who we are anymore, and have a complete loss of identity. Well I lost my way, and lost track of what was important. With a gentle nudge from my family, I decided to find someone to talk to. Online Therapy has been great to fit into my schedule, but also fulfill the needs I have to re-establish myself. I can't say enough good things about the journey, and all though I have done and learned so much, the rest of my journey awaits me. Fortunately, I now know I have the tools required to take them all on, and come out a better version of myself."

"Sometimes it really does help just to talk with someone, to work through tough situations or how to handle tough emotions. As an emotional and passionate person, online-therapy has been great to help me understand how to process situations, and approach them in a calm way. Self-help cannot never be underestimated. Also having this on a my-schedule setup has helped a lot with a wife and two young kids."

"As most adults with job, spouse, kids, etc., I struggle with finding the time to get a good nights sleep let alone time to talk and evaluate my life. Online Therapy allows for that discussion to happen on my terms fitting into my schedule.

The conversation has been really enlightening so far and looking forward to continuing this journey.

"First time doing online therapy and wasn't sure at first but after finding the right therapist it has been great. She is kind and patient with me and is helping me through all my stuff. The lessons are easy to navigate and has been beneficial for me. They may not work for everyone but if you are thinking of trying therapy this is a good place to start."

"I've been with pretty much every online therapist that is available. I am throughly impressed with online-therapy.com more than any of the others. They really take the time with you so that you can understand what will be accomplished with therapy through worksheets and one on one quality time with your therapist. Highly recommended."

"so far, I've taken a good liking to this. I do wish for faster response BUT I understand there are other people and such. Good review!"

"When I started this program 3 months ago, I had no idea that I would learn so much about myself. My counselor Lisa has been amazing- I am so lucky to have been matched with her. The program worksheets have been helpful in identifying my issues and guiding me through alternative ways of thinking. Lisa follows up with my worksheet responses, and is very encouraging in her comments- yet also direct in how she challenges me to see deeper into my growth. I am very grateful that I chose online-therapy.com over the other programs available."

"I've been working with Lisa since Spring of 2020 and I am incredibly grateful to her. I've been in an out of therapy a lot throughout my life, and I finally feel like I'm making progress and I've found something that works. I've seen some outcomes from therapy I didn't expect."

"I've completed my second session and several course sections. The structure of identifying first made a lot of sense and the act of doing so helped me to become more aware of the collection of my behaviors. Instead of just thinking of them piece meal, I can think of them more collectively and have a reference to return to review.

The sessions have been great. Walked away with after my 2nd with some simple action items which was exactly what I was going to ask about, but it was suggested before I could do so which was fantastic and I'm excited to start doing so.

The only reason for the 4 star was not being aware of how limited availability for online sessions can be. I couldn't get my first session till about 2 weeks after signing up because I thought I should get a couple sections done first. And I didn't book multiple in advance which might have been a nice tip to know as my next was very early in the morning. After that, I booked multiple in advance and they are perfect times. Small gripe.

Overall, very excited following this last session to continue on my journey.

"The exercises present (leaving aside for now the wonderful therapist I have) are really, and truly helpful. Writing out things allows you to identify your problems in a coherent manner, and then work towards solutions. They have helped me immensely in the last three or so weeks of the program. I like that the worksheets are self-paced, and have explanations.

This brings me to the therapist: the one I have is absolutely wonderful. She listens to my problems, and responds at the pace that I am comfortable at. The fact that I can message her throughout the week, and receive replies on my worksheets is encouraging.

Overall, I have found this website, and its program, very helpful. I think the project is a useful one.
