About Me

Hello! My name is Lisa Neuweg and I have been practicing psychotherapy since 2005. I received my Clinical License (LCPC) in 2007. I graduated from Bradley University with my Bachelor or Arts degree in 2001 and from there received my Master of Arts degree in Human Development Counseling at the University of Illinois at Springfield in 2004.

Upon completion of my Master's degree, I became employed at Chestnut Health Systems in Bloomington, IL as an inpatient addiction therapist. During my two and a half years at Chestnut Health Systems, I provided counseling and support to clients with alcohol and drug dependency issues. I developed and facilitated goal-oriented psychoeducational and activity therapy groups. During my time working with clients in group and individual counseling, I used a combination of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and person-centered therapy. In addition, I provided comprehensive case management services, including creating treatment plans and connecting clients and families to appropriate resources in the community. I also presented case history material to review and discuss with other staff members.

For the past 11 years, I have been employed with Agape Counseling in Bloomington, IL. I provided counseling to children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families in this outpatient setting. I participated in weekly consultation services with my peers and a consultation expert in order to provide my clients with the most relevant and clinically appropriate treatment. I utilized evidence-based interventions and protocols for maximizing outcomes for specific diagnoses/populations. I facilitated several groups and workshops during my time at Agape Counseling. I facilitated groups for adolescent girls on the topics of anxiety, stress management, and healthy relationships to self and others. I Co-facilitated a group for increasing social skills for adolescents on the spectrum as well as a group for adults on healthy boundaries. I also provided workshops on self-compassion for mothers and mindful parenting.

My speciality skills include a certification in Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), extensive training and experience working with self-harm issues in adolescents,
skilled in mindfulness and self-compassion practices, trained in providing grief counseling to individuals who have experienced pregnancy loss, and trained in using yoga, mindfulness, and basic nutrition to treat trauma.

I strive to use an integrative approach in my work with clients, with an emphasis on CBT and mindfulness, based on evidence-based practices and appropriate treatment for each client. I have an excellent ability to build therapeutic relationship and facilitate growth with my clients. I am well respected by my peers in the field and passionate about continuing to provide effective treatment.

"I've done face to face and video therapy before but this is completely different. Having the ability to work at my own pace made it so easy for me to communicate when I was ready to. And writing out my answers was so much easier than trying to talk about them. The worksheets truly did help me to see how negative my thinking was. My therapist was so great. During the weekly live chats, it was so easy to talk to her, since she had been replying to all my messages on the worksheets. She really got to know me more than I ever thought she would. I feel so much more confident now about what I need to do on a daily basis in order to feel happier."

"I've been using online therapy for a couple of weeks and am extremely satisfied. The worksheets are very helpful and informative and along with the therapist comments, they really help me to be able to see myself from a different perspective. My therapist has been great and her feedback is always very helpful. She always responds quickly. The only improvement I feel online-therapy.com could make would be to have the 1 on 1 session be either over the phone or video chat. A 30 minute text session is too slow to really get into anything too deeply. That being said, I believe the fact that I am getting daily feedback and from my makes up for my what I feel is a sub-par session. I went to traditional therapy many years ago for a different issue and I think online has been better for me to be honest. I would probably rate this 4.5 - 4.8 stars if i could due to the lack of video chat, but I did read they are in the process of implementing such a feature. When they do I will upgrade to 2 sessions a week. For now I don't see a real benefit to doing that.

"I love the services provided by online-therapy. The sections and worksheets are very thorough and are based on results-based CBT. My therapist is wonderful and is great at challenging my unhealthy thoughts and behaviours and helping me to come up with creative ways to replace those behaviours with healthier ones.

The extras like the journal and yoga are very helpful as well. I never run out of ways to work on myself with this site. I'm so thankful this exists because it is so much more convenient than physically going to a therapist and there are so many bonuses this site offers. I'd recommend this to anyone seeking help who is dedicated to doing the work to bring more happiness into their life.

I truly had the help of an expert therapist and this presented great value for money. I condensed the whole programme into 2 weeks (worked hard almost every night), despite this I received daily feedback and ongoing commentary. I was working hard and Lisa was able to keep up with me!

I was a little skeptical at first about doing this online CBT programme but in the end was really pleased and found it well worthwhile. It got to the core of some of my issues and instead of being some 'magic bullet' type approach actually made me face some of the issues I have been struggling with, it was difficult, tough and uncomfortable at times, but has provided me with some good tools and helped me to understand my thought patterns better.

"I find many of these tips and tricks useful and easy. I am hoping they will be something that will continue to help me in the future. The worksheets have been interesting and reflective. The videos are informative and the program is easy to follow. I have had a couple good sessions with my therapist, I wish that the sessions were longer. 30 minutes just isn't long enough to get all the information out. However she has given me some useful tricks for my bag that I can use to help me in times of need."
