Welcome! My name is Natalie Setliff. I am a licensed marriage and family therapist LMFT) and private practice owner in Washington DC. And no, I do not just to see couples and families, I see individuals, couples, and family's. MFTs and myself take into context ones family’s patterns of behavior that we feel influences the individual and therefore may need to be a part of our work and treatment plan (aka goals). In marriage and family therapy, the unit of treatment isn't just the person - even if only a single person is interviewed - it is the set of relationships in which the person is imbedded. As I’m sure you’ve come to find at this juncture that there are a TON of different “therapists” and yes, it is confusing. You can go to the link below to learn more about MFTs. In selecting a therapist this is an important component but what I believe is equally important is the relationship between therapist and client. I believe it is within this relationship that change takes place. Thus, if either of us feel that is not a good fit for whatever reason, that is OK. What’s more important is getting you the support that you deserve and need if it’s with me or someone else.
I little bit about me, my name is Natalie Venters Setliff. I am a licensed marriage and family therapist and private practice owner in Washington DC. My journey did not begin in The District, it began in West Virginia. I was raised in southern West Virginia and attended West Virginia University studying Psychology. I graduated with honors and immediately moved on to graduate school to specialize in the study of marriage and family therapy. I attended Seton Hall University in South Orange New Jersey. I completed my three-year Masters program with honors and obtained my Masters of science degree in marriage and family therapy. Upon completion of my I graduated with honors and immediately moved on to graduate school to specialize in the study of marriage and family therapy. I attended Seton Hall University in South Orange New Jersey. I completed my three-year Masters program with honors and obtained my Masters of science degree in marriage and family therapy. Upon completion of my masters degree in order to become licensed (LMFT vs MFT), one must complete a specific amount of postgraduate hours and experience. I lived in Hoboken New Jersey during this period and worked in Newark New Jersey. I moved to Virginia in 2012 where I joined a practice in Alexandria. During that timeframe I decided I wanted to open up my own private practice. The next year I opened District Counseling and Wellness Center, PLLC. I Hope that I answered a few of your questions and will be more than happy to answer any additional questions you may have in order to help you make an informed decision. Best of luck on your journey and remember to be kind to yourself.
