Penny Jones
,Ed.S, lpc
I am a Certified School Mental Health Counselor as well as a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Georgia. I have recently retired from the Coweta County School System and would like to shift my focus from school counseling to mental health counseling. My strengths include having strong communication skills, paying attention to details, and collaborating well with colleagues .
I began my journey by earning a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Psychology at the University of Birmingham. I continued my education by earning an M. Ed. in Guidance & Counseling from West Georgia College. I also earned an Ed.S. degree from the University of West Georgia in Guidance & Counseling.
I have worked as a School Mental Health Counselor for the past 29 years. During this time, I worked with children, parents and teachers to help our students experience success. Most of my time was spent working with children directly to help them develop emotional regulation skills.
My therapy orientation is CBT which I incorporated during counseling sessions with students.
I have found that CBT interventions helped my students to heal and regulate their emotions by understanding how their thoughts, behaviors, and feelings are connected.
I have retired from my position as a school mental health counselor and look forward to transitioning to individual counseling as an LPC. I am excited to begin a new chapter of my life!

"I have found a lot of value in how the worksheets have been directing my thoughts. My therapist has been commenting and giving me tips from the worksheets too and I have seen drastic improvements in the way I think and my energy overall! The journal is nice to have since its not mandatory but it is nice to keep track of my day and be grateful for the things I did during the day!"

"I deeply appreciated the comments that were made on the worksheets. I can already feel the way I think slowly shifting and becoming kinder to myself. This made me realize how many thought traps I fall victim to, and also made me realize that I had some measures before to counteract the negative thoughts. My therapist was really kind too and it was nice to read comments in my free time and not be restricted with when I filled out anything. I liked the journal because it would guide my thoughts and give me a glimpse of my day that I can look back on. As for the activity plan, I treat it more as a tentative schedule as my schedule and energy shifts throughout the day. Overall, I don't have any regrets choosing this platform to receive treatment and it was a nice first experience at therapy! Thank you for everything and I look forward to working on myself more with your help until I no longer need it."

"I've felt the curriculum has been very helpful for me to work through and reflect on my own time. The structured nature and step by step process makes it easier to tackle bigger feelings by breaking it down."
